So, I set up a laptop for my wife with Linux — Aurora Linux, by the way. I wrote about why I landed on it in another post. I set her up with Aurora on her laptop because I had already installed a Hermes agent on her Windows computer and I didn't really like how it worked there. I think it's better suited for Linux. She has two laptops, so I figured I might as well use one as an experiment and keep the other one in case she doesn't like it. She's definitely not tech savvy, but Linux has come a long way and it's pretty user-friendly these days. Besides, she does most of what she needs in Chrome, in the browser, so I don't think she needs a lot of technical expertise on the OS side.
Anyway, I set up an agent for her. Her name is Emily, because my wife loves The Devil Wears Prada, so her assistant is Emily now. I gave her a marketing skill, because my wife has a small home-based daycare and wants to grow it, but she needs to figure out how to get more customers faster.
This morning I connected the Emily Hermes agent with Instagram. Well, I gave it some Instagram credentials — not the ones for her business, just separate ones — so it could log in and look at my wife's business profile. I told it to go over every post and every reel and look at the style and what she's trying to communicate, her brand. My wife has been struggling to find someone to handle social media for her. The friend who's been helping is very helpful, but sometimes doesn't have the time to do what my wife needs, and she hasn't had luck finding anyone else. Maybe she can learn to do it herself, since she knows what she wants — she's just not very tech savvy and can't implement her ideas very well. Or we'll see if we can use AI for that, which is a different project altogether.
All in all, we're trying to see how much we can use AI in a very guided way — not just telling it "hey, do this for me" and forgetting about it. We're trying to use a little bit of AI with purpose for marketing: looking at her website to see what can be improved, looking at her Instagram posts. This morning I also connected Emily with Google Ads and Google Analytics, so she has a bigger picture of what's going on and can make some suggestions.
Then there's my own agent, more of a developer assistant, also a Hermes agent, on my PC. I got those two talking to each other. Its name is Adama, by the way, like in Battlestar Galactica. The idea is that Emily tells Adama what improvements the website needs, and then Adama implements those changes locally on the website first. That's supposed to be happening right now while I take a quick break, and I'll come back and see what they did together.
I'm kind of excited. I feel like I'm using AI with a purpose, and learning something in the process.
UPDATE: I got home and Adama + Claude had made a mess of the local version of the website. I rolled back the changes, took Emily's suggestions and implemented them more carefully with Claude.
